JazzReach’s Metta Quintet invited by U.S. Dept. Of State to participate as artits-in-residence at Suriname International Jazz Festival

New York City – In early fall 2012, JazzReach’s resident ensemble, Metta Quintet was invited by the U.S. Dept. of State to participate as “artists-in-residence” for the Suriname International Jazz Festival. Between October 23 and 28, 2012, the ensemble was featured in concert on numerous festival stages throughout the capitol city of Paramaribo and also visited local schools where they introduced the many facets of jazz to local students.

JazzReach founder, Hans Schuman remarks, “our time in Suriname was a thrill and we were honored to have been invited! Sharing the art form with as many [young] people as possible (particularly those who may never have heard it before) is at the heart of our mission, so we couldn’t be more grateful for the opportunity. The people of Suriname were welcoming, warm and friendly and our hosts at the U.S. Embassy were gracious and attentive to ensure that all our events were carried out smoothly. We look forward to future partnerships with the U.S. State Dept. and hope we can continue to expand our reach abroad.”
