JazzReach partners with the city of Wilmington’s Clifford Brown jazz festival to develop all-new educational program about the legendary trumpeter and Wilmington native, Clifford Brown

Wilmington, DE – On November 29 and 30, 2012, JazzReach presented 5 debut performances of “Clifford Brown: A Portrait in Words & Music” - an all-new live multi-media educational program for young audiences designed to promote the legacy and music of the great trumpeter / bandleader (and Wilmington native), Clifford Brown. Performances took place at Wilmington’s historic, Queen Theater (now referred to as World Café Live) and successfully served over 600 3-5th graders from throughout greater Wilmington.

The program features live performances of classic repertoire long associated with Brown (by JazzReach’s resident ensemble, Metta Quintet) along with in-depth video commentary about Brown from some of today’s most esteemed jazz trumpeters including, Marcus Printup, Jeremy Pelt, Christian Scott, Terell Stafford and Brandon Lee along with renown drummer, Lewis Nash. The program was commissioned by the City of Wilmington’s “Cityfest”, producer of the annual Clifford Brown Jazz Festival, and made possible in part by grants from JP Morgan Chase and DuPont.
